Paint a dramatic tree in acrylic - from the ground up - in a series of step-by-step video lessons!
In this video series, artist Paul Richmond takes you through the process of creating a dynamic acrylic painting of a tree from an upward-looking perspective. You’ll learn how to capture the feeling of standing beneath a towering tree — emphasizing perspective, scale, and depth — while developing your acrylic painting skills along the way.
Each of the twelve lessons are ten minutes in length and focus on a new part of the process, guiding you from the first sketch to the final expressive brushstrokes. By the end of this course, you’ll have a complete acrylic painting of your own and a deeper understanding of how to use perspective to add drama and energy to your landscapes.
In this immersive course, Paul invites you into his artistic process from the very beginning. Work alongside him to:
-
Explore how perspective changes when you look up at your subject.
-
Create a strong compositional foundation using dynamic angles and lines.
-
Mix rich, natural color palettes for bark, leaves, and sky.
-
Build layers of light and shadow to create depth.
-
Use expressive brushwork to capture movement and atmosphere.
You’ll be amazed by how much your sense of perspective and confidence with acrylics will grow through this focused, step-by-step approach. Paul’s warm, encouraging teaching style makes this course enjoyable for beginners and a refreshing challenge for more experienced artists looking to expand their technical and compositional skills.
This class is great for anyone interested in learning how to paint trees, landscapes, or other natural subjects with more realism, drama, and emotion.
